The EXPO, adopting the global theme, “It’s all about sweets & snacks,” is the largest confectionery, cookie and snack show in the Americas. In addition to candy, chocolate and gum, customers at the 2007 EXPO will also see for the first time cookies and biscuits, crackers, sweet snacks like breakfast bars and fruit snacks, nuts, savory snacks like chips and pretzels, and meat snacks.

Second International Conference on Fruit, Vegetable and Potato Processing
Worldwide, fruit, vegetable and potato products are importantly contributing to the daily diet of many human populations. Besides providing nutrients and essential nutritional elements, these products are also the source of many technologically active ingredients and additives. Due to the increasing complexity of industrially processed plant based products more fundamental mechanistic knowledge is required on how different technologies relate to product quality characteristics such as sensory characteristics and nutritional value. Many questions can be asked about the evolution during the next decades.
The objective of this conference is therefore to discuss recent findings in the field of fruit, vegetable and potato processing research. </P
Highlights:
1. Novel and innovative processes
2. Biological active substances
3. Processing, nutritional value and sensory characteristics | 11/4/2007 | 11/5/2007 |

| 57 | | United Potato Growers of America will host the United Fall Crop Transition Conference Wednesday, September 10. The free, half-day conference is provided as an information meeting for all North American potato industry members.
“Our purpose is to discuss the expected 2008 fall crop including projections for yield, size profile and pack-out,” said Lee Frankel, UPGA president and chief executive officer. “The conference will assist growers and sales organizations when marketing the 2008 crop to ensure an orderly flow to the market while preserving grower profitability.”
Allen Floyd, chairman, said, “Through this free conference, United is providing a key service to the industry. By reviewing historical data and updated crop information, growers can work with their marketers to determine how to best manage the crop transition period. Incorrect information traditionally has resulted in unnecessary brief periods of oversupply that depressed markets for months early in the season and left the market short prior to the next crop year.”
The United Fall Crop Transition Conference will be facilitated by Cary Hoffman, chairman of UPGA’s marketing committee. | 9/10/2008 | 9/10/2008 |

PROCESSING AND STORAGE?
We have been publishing Potato Processing International (formerly Potato Business World) since 1992 and introduced the popular International Potato Processing Convention in 1997 – a popularity it retains.
When we announced Potato Storage International magazine in 2004, it was clear that there was also a demand for a convention that offered an international look at the global opportunities for the storage industry, which led to the creation of the International Potato Storage Convention.
There was a clear opportunity to ‘twin’ the International Potato Storage Convention with the established International Potato Processing Convention and create a broader, higher value event – a move that was very effective and greatly liked by attendees.
Offering dedicated programmes for each of the storage and processing industries, plus a ‘for all’ programme of topics important to both sectors, plus delegates being free enjoy both programmes as much as they wished and sharing break out facilities created great interaction. Feedback demanded the concept of combining the two events should continue. This it will, with some additions to further enhance the event.
WHAT IS THE CONCEPT OF THE CONVENTION?
In a world of increasing globalisation, our unique convention is structured to bring together two key elements of the potato industry, elements where value adding and quality are of paramount importance for business success.
The emphasis is on ‘International’ and ‘business-developing’ boosted by providing attendees with thought provoking, business-building programmes of presentations and a unique, conducive atmosphere to mix with industry colleagues from around the world.
The focal point of the high quality programme of presentations firmly illustrates this as a business development event and the added, very valuable, extensive networking opportunities with fellow industry professionals enhance the event’s profile even further.
Responding to feedback, we continue to adapt the structure of the event to provide the industry with a rounded event full of opportunity across three days.
An accompanying exhibition and a Technical Workshop programme add to the event.
FOR THE POTATO STORAGE INDUSTRY:
The worldwide potato storage industry continues to play an ever-increasing role in supplying processors, retail and foodservice markets and is a hugely important sector of the potato supply chain.
Maximising both storage life and product quality are more valid than ever and are the key factors to adding (or maintaining) value. The search for opportunities and answers for those keen to develop their business is now a worldwide search, with ideas, products, services and concepts being traded between countries to enhance value - value that is demanded by volume users, such as retailers and processors.
FOR THE POTATO PROCESSING INDUSTRY:
Across the world, the potato processing industry is once again powering forward. Levels of investment in new facilities and new technologies are very high indeed and seem to be increasing even more. Industry analysts expect the boom of recent years will continue for some time to come as the industry boosts quality and volume of production and new product development.
The programme of presentations will focus on core aspects affecting the industry of today, plus examine in greater detail the possibilities of implementation and usage of modern technologies and applications for enhancing existing production and the development of processing opportunities.
