Edmonton, capital of the Canadian energy
province of Alberta, has experienced many ups and downs in oil
extraction from its oil sand deposits over the past decades. But
since the 1990s, the city and its surrounding areas are booming.
The agricultural sector is also riding on this wave of success.
One
example is Sunfresh Farms Ltd.
This company processes locally
grown produce, and produce
transported by 7 trucks from its
own fleet of vehicles, from
other production regions,
including potatoes, carrots,
cauliflower, broccoli and
swedes. In September 2007,
Sunfresh Farms moved into a
brand new warehouse. CEO of
Sunfresh Farms Dean Seeger:
“This facility will not only
allow for increased capacity,
but also enables us to offer
more convenience products,
including mixed salad leaves,
peeled potatoes, onions and
carrots.”
Reyco Systems Inc. provide
waste processing for Sunfresh
Another success story is the waste processing system in the
new Sunfresh Farms processing plant. The system used is a
Pneumatic Valve Waste System from American supplier Reyco
Systems Inc. According to Jeroen Luijten at Sormac the
co-operation between Sormac and Reyco during the installation of
the production line and the corresponding waste processing
system was excellent. “Reyco provided a fantastic system,
which ensures optimal waste management, despite the fact that
space in the production hall for the three lines was limited.”
For Sunfresh Farms’ new processing plant
Sormac supplied processing lines for carrots, onions and
potatoes in 2008 and 2009. “In close collaboration with the
customers, our agent in Canada Mc Cleary Equipment Sales Inc.
and the Sormac specialists, the three lines were integrated into
the new plant at Sunfresh Farms”, explains Jeroen Luijten, area
sales manager at Sormac. “When constructing and installing
each individual line, the following line also had to be taken
into account.”
The carrot and onion lines were installed
first on both sides of the building, followed by the potato line
in between. This comprises a roller peeler CRP-12,
a knife peeler
MS-1T, a roller inspection table, a dipping
tank and a weighing machine AFW-40. Sunfresh
Farms has been active since January 1997.“Since our
inception we have established a strong presence as a supplier to
wholesalers in Western Canada”, says Dean Seeger. “Now the new processing plant is operational
and running to our full satisfaction, we hope to expand our
position in the future even further.”
