The Sormac MS-Combi is the ideal peeling
tool for companies that have to peel small or medium volumes of
potatoes, as this machine combines an abrasive roller peeler and
a knife peeler: two in one!
Knife peeling gives a very attractive
peeling result compared to roller peelers. The potatoes have a
hand peeled appearance and, moreover, their smooth exterior
keeps them in good, fresh condition for longer. However, for a
good peeling result, prepeeling is essential. As a separate
roller peeler takes up a lot of space and is unprofitable where
small peeling volumes are concerned, the answer is the MS-Combi.
In France, the MS-Combi is used
by the Coopérative de Noirmoutier. Noirmoutier is a small island
just off the Atlantic coast near Nantes. For centuries the only
link to the mainland has been over a 4 km paved sandbank that
floods twice a day at high tide. The sandy soil and salty
conditions on the island are perfect to cultivate highly
exclusive potatoes, known by the name of La Bonnotte de
Noirmoutier. Annual production amounts to 60 tons, which is all
sold on just one day – namely the first Friday in May. The
wholesale price this year is 3 euro/ kg.
 Mr. Semelin, the
dynamic director of the Coopérative de Noirmoutier, has made every effort to
encourage sales of the 13,000 tons of Charlottes, that make up the greatest part
of the annual production of potatoes in Noirmoutier. This culinary delicacy is
sold to exclusive restaurants, not just in France, but also beyond its borders.
650 tons of these Charlottes potatoes are peeled and packed. By using the Sormac
MS-Combi for peeling, 1,000 tons can be processed initially. Plus, using the
machine has reduced the loss percentage by no less than 20 %, so Mr. Semelin can
state with pleasure that the ROI time for the machine will be very short.
