Dear Subscriber,
Even though winter in Canada has not
officially arrived, the Eastern part of North America has
had a thorough dusting of snow, including our garden (see
photo). Quite a difference from the last two years. Pretty
sure we are going to see a white Christmas with now about 50
cm snow on the ground!
In front of you, you have the last PotatoPro Newsletter
of 2007. You can expect the next PotatoPro Newsletter on January
9, 2008. In the meantime we will keep updating the news. A
great opportunity to try out
our RSS-feeds!
We will also follow up on your orders, but expect it all to
take a bit longer than normal.
For the French fry industry, the year
2007 definitely ends on a high. We saw earlier in the week
the
announcement that Simplot added an extra shift to the french
fry production in their Canadian plant in Portage la
Prairie (Manitoba).
An even better sign of strengthening demand for french
fries was today's announcement of McCain Foods Limited.
McCain Foods
plans to build a new french fry factory in the Pacific North
West of the United States. McCain says the factory will
be designed to produce french fries and potato specialties
primarily for foodservice and quick service restaurants in
the United States and international markets. Construction of
the factory, an investment of CAD 150 million, is scheduled
to begin in the spring of 2008, while start up is
anticipated for harvest 2009.
Last, but not least, we wish you all the best for the
holidays and a happy 2008.
