Black Gold acquires Preston Produce potato packing facility in Texas

Black Gold, a multi-state potato production and sales organization headquartered in Grand Forks, North Dakota announces its recent acquisition of Preston Produce, Randall Preston’s potato packing facility in Pearsall, TX this spring.

Black Gold will also partner with Gary Boyd, an experienced local [in Pearsall] potato producer.

Glen Reynolds, National Director of Produce Sales, who is leading the Black Gold table stock efforts, comments about the value that this location will add to customers, “Black Gold provides many advantages to our customers in South Texas and beyond. We will be packing all types of consumer packaging for both retail and food service businesses. We have flexibility now to pack bulk totes, multiple sizes of poly consumer packs, and private label. These packaging options, as well as a wider window of time for us to supply fresh potatoes in this geography are very exciting to us, and to our customers”.

The Texas market is not new to Black Gold. “Our experience growing potatoes in the Pearsall area for nearly 20 years, as well as the partnership with an excellent potato grower like Boyd will allow us to share in our expertise of agronomy practices, as well as utilize economies of scale. We have also learned a great deal with the current packing facility in Arbyrd, MO and now this acquisition &partnership will provide us with a great opportunity to be a major Texas supplier of table stock potatoes.” States Eric Halverson, VP of Technology for Black Gold.
