This is already the last PotatoPro Newsletter of 2008.
Time to look back and time to look ahead.
Looking back:
This
was a memorable year in many ways: rising food prices,
record high and low gas prices, recession, Obama.
And of course, 2008 was the
International Year of the Potato. The year of the Potato
has gone by fast, with lots activities.
The FAO looks back on the activities in the International
Year of the Potato in an extensive report titled "New Light
on a hidden treasure" and also
Europatat has evaluated the Year of the Potato and
created an
overview of the activities in many European countries.
Looking ahead:
We have no clue what will happen in the world, but here
at PotatoPro we have a lot of plans for next year. We
want to make the site and the Newsletters even more
interesting. Sorry, we will keep our plans a surprise....
OK, here is one: expect a redesign of the PotatoPro site in
the first quarter of 2009.
And looking ahead to next year, you should consider
taking a sponsor or advertising package on PotatoPro to
bring your products to the attention of the increasing
audience of PotatoPro. OK, here is another one of our
plans.... In the new year we will launch new, upgraded
sponsor packages,
which includes a new page tailored to your company. Just another reason you should think of
becoming an advertiser or sponsor of PotatoPro.
This is also the time to plan on what events you may want
to attend in 2009. We thought we would help you by spending
some extra time on our event section for 2009. Such an
overview is never complete, but I am sure we offer the most
complete overview anywhere. And in case you miss an event,
just let us know.
Let me conclude by wishing you and your
loved ones all the best in these days full of festivities.
And even though next year is no longer "the year of the
potato", I bet for most of us it is still a year full of
potatoes....

Enjoy reading,
Paul van Eijck
As mentioned, we have paid special attention to the
events section this week. We have added new information on
several events that took place earlier this year,
a slideshow of pictures I made at ALAP,
Interpom |Primeurs,
1st Andalusion Potato Congress. Also we have added
several upcoming events that may be of interest to you,
including the
Idaho Potato Congress,
Maine Potato Congress,
North East Potato Technology Forum,
the PAA2009 congress,
the Northwest Food Manufacturing and Packaging Exhibition
and the
