Maureen Storey, PhD, president and CEO of the Alliance for Potato Research and Education (APRE) today announced the formation of the APRE President’s Circle.

The APRE President’s Circle is a new membership category designed to strengthen industry value chain collaboration and enhance the potato sector’s impact on the nutrition policy dialogue surrounding the role of potatoes in all forms in a healthy lifestyle.

“The APRE President’s Circle was created to bring trading partners together to support the science on potatoes, to create educational initiatives and opportunities, and to inform and educate the public policy process,” said Dr. Storey. “This is the logical next step for APRE to fully leverage the nutritional strengths of this powerhouse vegetable by tapping into the unique expertise, insights and strengths of our entire value chain.”

Agribusinesses, growers, seed and crop protection companies, agricultural suppliers, food manufacturers, restaurants, foodservice companies and food retailers are eligible for membership in the President’s Circle.

President’s Circle members will advise the APRE CEO and board of directors on the organization’s research agenda and will participate in the APRE Annual Meeting, held in conjunction with the National Restaurant Association Restaurant, Hotel-Motel Show (NRA Show) in Chicago, IL.

President’s Circle members will receive additional free and exclusive benefits, including:

  • Semi-annual briefings on APRE’s priorities and research agenda from Dr. Storey
  • Complimentary invitations to APRE educational events and Webinars on potato research & public policy issues
  • Exclusive APRE event sponsorship opportunities
  • Unlimited free subscriptions to APRE news alerts, newsletters and communiqués

“There is a great deal of misperception when it comes to the role of white vegetables in the diet,” said Dr. Storey. “Potatoes are a great source of essential vitamins and minerals, and the President’s Circle was created by the APRE Board of Directors to ensure that we are united as an industry in telling our positive story about potatoes bolstered by the science and the facts.”
