At the end of April, the last potatoes were delivered to Avebe in Gasselternijveen.

Potato processing at other production sites had already been completed.

Extreme drought and warm weather resulted in an exceptional potato campaign. At the beginning of May, Avebe announced that the final campaign price would be raised from 70 euros to 80 euros per tonne of potatoes.

Avebe sets an advance on the campaign price at the start of the potato campaign. This price is based on ‘standard’ potatoes with a starch content of 19%. Due to the exceptional weather conditions, this price had already been raised to 70 euros in two steps during the campaign. The cooperative also announced that it would be distributing the full cooperative result to its members.

At the beginning of May, the final campaign price was set at 80 euros per tonne of potatoes. Including premiums and bonuses, Avebe is paying an average of 90 euros per tonne of potatoes. Avebe will announce the performance price at the beginning of November. This price combines the cooperative result and the potato revenues.

More than 25% less potatoes

Chairman of the board Bert Jansen:

“Due to the extreme weather conditions, we processed more than 25 percent less potatoes than in recent years. That’s substantial.”

“It meant that we had to stop potato processing in Ter Apelkanaal and in Lüchow and Dallmin in Germany earlier.”

“By taking advantage of the opportunities in the market and making significant savings, we are trying to achieve the best possible performance price for our members.”

The starch content across the board was around 20 percent, in line with the multi-annual average.
