Lo hace para situarse en las 89.300 ha en 2007 distribuidas entre Castilla y León, Andalucía y Galicia. En total, la producción durante el pasado año alcanzó los 2,5 millones de tn, aunque los precios, a partir de abril, cayeron a niveles de 2004. En el Año Internacional de la Patata, parece que España pierde fuerza en este cultivo. Aunque en 2007 la superficie sembrada se incrementó un 2,7 por ciento en relación a 2006 -de 86.900 pasó a 89.300 ha-, lo cierto es que en los últimos siete años se ha producido un descenso del 46 por ciento, según datos del Anuario Agrario 2008 de la organización agraria COAG.
