A shopper has been horrified to find a snake curled up in a sealed bag of potatoes bought from Woolworths.
Lewina Stewart, of Toowoomba, has shared the startling experience on social media.
“Soooo … this is NOT what you want to find when cooking tea - a snake in the potato bag! I was a little freaked,’’ she posted.
An image of the slippery intruder was sent to Sunshine Coast snake catcher Richie Gilbert to identify.
He revealed it was a 30cm white crowned snake, mildly venomous, but not considered dangerous to humans.
“The shopper found it inside the sealed bag she bought from her local Woolies about March 10,’’ Mr Gilbert said.
“It would have given her quite a shock. The snake was released unharmed, which is great news.
“Next time you purchase a sack of potatoes be sure to ask for yours without a snake.’’
The Courier-Mail understands Ms Stewart has discussed the discovery with staff at the Woolworths involved.
A Woolworths spokesman said the incident was being investigated.
