Utilization: 'Dakota Russet' is suitable for fresh consumption, frozen processing as well as fresh processing. It has excellent French fry quality and resistance to environmental stresses.

Tubers: Attractive tubers with golden flaky skin. Tuber type is long and blocky; eyes are shallow and the tuber flesh is creamy white.

Origin and Breeding History
Dakota Russet' (experimental designation 'ND8229-3') originated from a cross conducted in 1999 by the North Dakota State University of Agriculture and Applied Science, between the variety 'Marcy', as the female parent, and the selection designated 'AH66-4', as the male parent.
The true seed from the cross was planted in a greenhouse in 2000 and the resulting 477 tubers were planted in a seedling nursery field in Langdon, North Dakota, in 2001.
'Dakota Russet' was selected during the 2001 seedling harvest for its suitability for frozen fry processing.
Tests & Trials:
The comparative trial for 'Dakota Russet' was conducted during the growing season of 2015 in Drummond, New Brunswick.
The trial consisted of a single, 18.5 metre long row containing 60 plants spaced 0.3 metres apart for each variety.
The distance between rows within the trial was 0.9 metres. Observations and measurements were taken from 10 plants, or 10 parts of plants, of each variety. Mean differences were significant at the 5% probability level based on a paired Student's t-test.
