The name Spectra refers to the broad sales potential of this variety, which can serve almost the entire fresh potato spectrum in the supermarket chains.

The crossing resulting in the Spectra variety was made by Agrico Research in 2003. The purpose of this crossing (Arielle x Sofia) was to create an early consumer variety.

The company Lantmännen Seed selected this variety even before the Agrico tests were judged to be good enough. Spectra has attractive skin and provides a good yield.
