Selecting and understanding the mechanisms of drought tolerance in potato cultivars of China
China grows 25% of the world’s potatoes, but 60% of its crop is in arid northwest regions where shallow roots and short growing seasons make them drought-sensitive. Researchers test drought-tolerant varieties and biochemicals to ease soil stress.

United Kingdom signs deal allowing seed potato export to China
The United Kingdom has signed a major deal allowing the export of seed potatoes to China. The deal is expected to bring major benefits to Scotland, with around 70% of the 100,000 tonnes of seed potatoes exported annually from the UK coming from Scottish farms.

Dutch agri-food expert Jan Hak sees great potential for potato production in China
With the help of Dutch technology and the Chinese people's own hard work, it is possible to double China's potato production as proposed in the current five-year plan, thus making potato a strategic bulk necessity for the Chinese population, said Jan Hak, a Dutch agri-food expert who has been engaged in Sino-Dutch agricultural cooperation in the past decades.
