The Institute of Plant Biotechnology (IBP) of the Central University 'Marta Abreu' of Las Villas belongs to the Ministry of Higher Education of the Republic of Cuba. It was founded on November 19, 1992.

The IBP emerged from the scientific results of the Collective of Genetic Improvement of the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences where studies in plant biotechnology began in the 80s of the twentieth century.

Its mission is to carry out a relevant scientific, technological and permanent improvement of human resources in the field of Plant Biotechnology, characterized by the generation, dissemination and transfer of knowledge, technologies, products and services of high added value, competitive, committed to the country and of recognized impact in the national and international environment.
