The Smith's Snackfood Company in Australia is part of Pepsico and produces and sells a range of Frito-lay brands next to several local brands.

Smith's Chips were first manufactured in Australia in 1931 by Mr. Frank Smith and an associate, George Ensor. Smith had originally established the Smith's product and name in the UK, before moving to Australia to set up the business there.

These chips were originally made in 20 gas fired cooking pots, and packed by hand.

In 1932, Smith's Potato Chips (Australia) was formed and sold its early chips in three penny packets, 24 in a tin. The legendary "twist of salt" sachet was contained in these packs before pre-salting was introduced in later years.

In 1945, a continuous cooker process was introduced to replace the individual cooking pots. In 1960 the production of a one shilling pack for movie theatres and a box pack for four shillings was initiated.

Over the years there were several changes of ownership and many new products were added to the original potato chip range including Nobby's Nuts, Burger Rings, Twisties, and Parker's Pretzels.

In August 1998, The Smith's Snackfood Company was purchased by PepsiCo. In recent years The Smith's Snackfood Company has launched many new products including the delicious wholegrain chip - Grain Waves

The Smith's Snackfood Company also ran an Australian version of the "Do Us a Flavour" promotion.
