Wisconsin potato farmers produced 28.2 million hundredweight of potatoes during the 2007 growing year on 64,000 acres. The state's agriculture department says 94-percent of that crop was sold as either fresh market, processing or seed potatoes. The remainder was used on the farm where it was grown or lost after it reached storage.
The value of the state's 2007 potato crop was $220 million, with an average price of $7.80 per cwt. The average price per hundredweight was unchanged from 2006. The average price for fresh market potatoes increased five cents to $8.70 and the average price for processed potatoes increased 15 cents to $6.90.
