Potato wholesaler Jac van den Oord in Ammerzoden, the Netherlands has placed some new potato products on the market specifically for the Christmas period.

These new products include new red potatoes with pink flesh and a mix of colors in one package,

Leon van den Oord:

"We started specializing years ago and we have been expanding ever since."

"Specializing has led us to further advise our customers and think about both the small and large concepts."

"A direct result of specializing is that we create professional labels tailored to our customers wishes. We design and develop the labels here so we can respond flexibly to our customers needs. In the spring we started with asparagus-potatoes and that is now bearing fruit. Personalized packaging is becoming more popular, particularly with the 500 gram to 1 kilo packages. We are definitely meeting a need in the market, in both domestic wholesale and retail."
According to Leon, there is always a specific demand for potatoes around Christmas time.

"For our customers we have specific potatoes for the Christmas packages. Small potatoes and mixed color potato packages are in demand around the holidays. In recent years there are more oven potatoes with the skin still on. The potatoes are selling well right now. Christmas orders for potatoes always start pretty early. People want them at the beginning of next week, so we don't have much last minute work to do."
