Potatoes in Canada is organising a webinar on Controlling Colorados: Challenges and Management of Colorado Potato Beetle on 27 March 2024 at 1:00 pm by Dr. Christine Noronha, Research Scientist (Entomology IPM) at the Charlottetown Research and Development Centre, Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada, PEI and Anne McRae, BASF’s Senior Technical Service Specialist for Horticulture, as they discuss one of the most challenging pests to control in potatoes: Colorado Potato Beetles.

This webinar will review some of the challenges associated with Colorado potato beetles along with new solutions in the market to control this pest.

Speaker: Dr. Christine Noronha

Dr. Christine Noronha is a research scientist (Entomology IPM) at the Charlottetown Research and Development Centre, Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada, PEI. Dr. Noronha’s research has focused on developing pest management strategies for major agricultural pests such as Colorado Potato Beetle, Diamond Backed Moth, European Corn Borer, Wireworms, and Pollen Beetle.

She invented the NELT a solar powered trap for click beetles, a larval crusher for European corn borer and developed a crop rotation strategy for wireworm suppression.

Her leadership in developing innovative pest management strategies has had a significant impact on the agricultural sector and she frequently receives requests for consultations, advice, and presentations from growers, industry groups, and the scientific community, in Canada and Europe. In 2016, she received the Agrologist Recognition Award for outstanding contributions to agriculture from the Prince Edward Island Institute of Agrologist, and she was selected as an Influential Women in Canadian Agriculture for 2022.

Dr. Noronha has published scientific papers, book chapters and fact sheets. She works closely with the agricultural industry and individual farmers from across Canada and agricultural consultants from France, Italy, and the UK.
