On February 15, 2018, Pepsico Canada announced the closure of its Spitz plant in Bow Island, Alberta moving the production to an existing contract manufacturing partner in the United States.

The plant will reportedly close later in 2018 with all 53 employees losing their job.

A Spitz distribution plant in Medicine Hat, Alberta closed its doors in early 2016, affecting six people who were employed there.
