In Duitsland zijn de eerste vroege aardappelen geplant.
In de Pfalz, traditioneel het vroegste teeltgebied van Noord West Europa waar de aardappelen de eerste periode onder plastic worden geteeld, was men al eind februari gestart met de aanplant .
Momenteel wordt er ook in de andere voege teeltgebieden (bijv. Rheinland) geplant. De verwachting is dat het areaal vroege in Duitsland flink krimpt. Insiders spreken van ca. 18% t.o.v. oogstjaar 2011. In oogstjaar 2011 was er sprake van een duidelijke uitbreiding van het areaal vroege.
De destijds hoge marktprijs van de aardappelen oogst 2010 verleide telers om meer vroege aardappelen te planten.
