El gobierno polaco prohibió este miércoles los cultivos de maíz y papa transgénicos, según un comunicado oficial publicado al término del Consejo de Ministros.
El gabinete del primer ministro Donald Tusk adoptó dos resoluciones que prohíben el cultivo de papa Amflora del grupo BASF y de maíz MON 810 del grupo Monsanto, dos organismos genéticamente modificados autorizados por la Unión Europea.
Las dos resoluciones entrarán en vigor el 28 de enero.
La organización ambientalista Greenpeace saludó inmediatamente la decisión del gobierno declarando en un comunicado que “el gobierno mantuvo sus promesas”.
El jefe de gobierno polaco había prometido excluir los transgénicos justo después del voto por el Senado de una ley que autoriza el registro y el comercio de transgénicos en Polonia, hasta ahora prohibidos.
Según Tusk la adopción de esta ley, que entró en vigor el 1 de enero, “fue impuesta por reglamentación europea”.
