Dutch potato breeding and seed potato specialist Agrico has reported encouraging results from its latest field visits in Cyprus, where several potato varieties demonstrated strong performance despite a difficult growing season marked by heavy rainfall, cold temperatures, and strong winds.

Strong Results Despite Difficult Weather Conditions

During a recent visit to its local partner, Optimus Land, Agrico representatives assessed commercial fields and trial plots across the country. The company highlighted excellent results from the varieties Babylon, Vogue, and Paradiso, along with the newer variety Fajah, all of which showed strong yields, uniform tuber development, and outstanding skin quality under challenging conditions.

New Varieties Show Promising Potential

Agrico also used the visit to evaluate a number of promising new varieties in trial fields. Early observations of Feliz, Jamaica, and Sivas suggest strong potential, with the varieties showing encouraging development and adaptability to local growing conditions.

In addition to the trial assessments, Agrico visited growers cultivating the varieties Jacky and Jolene, where farmer feedback was reported to be highly positive. The company noted strong grower satisfaction with the performance and reliability of these varieties.

The successful season reinforces confidence in Agrico’s breeding programme and highlights the importance of selecting robust varieties capable of delivering consistent results under increasingly unpredictable climatic conditions.
