Variety Description

Murovdag is a high-yielding potato variety from Azerbaijan, developed by the Research Institute of Vegetable Growing. It produces large, oval tubers with smooth light brown skin and creamy flesh. The variety shows moderate resistance to late blight, common scab, and some potato viruses. Adapted to both irrigated and semi-arid conditions, Murovdag is suitable for diverse soils and matures in about 90–110 days, making it ideal for commercial production.

Tuber Characteristics:

  • Shape: Oval to slightly elongated tubers.
  • Skin: Smooth, light brown or yellowish skin.
  • Flesh: Creamy to yellow flesh inside.
  • Size: Large tubers, often uniform in size, ideal for commercial production.
  • Yield: High yielding variety, up to 50 tons/ha under optimal conditions.
  • Dry Matter Content: Medium to high, suitable for various culinary uses including boiling and frying.

Resistances:

  • Late Blight (Phytophthora infestans): Moderate resistance, reducing the need for frequent fungicide applications.
  • Common Scab: Good tolerance, helping maintain tuber quality.
  • Fusarium Dry Rot: Moderate resistance.
  • Virus Resistance: Moderate tolerance to Potato Virus Y (PVY) and Potato Virus X (PVX).
  • Drought Tolerance: Adapted to both irrigated and semi-arid conditions, showing good drought tolerance compared to other varieties.
