Orwell is an early maincrop variety ideal for crisping, with short-oval, yellow-skinned tubers and light yellow flesh. It has good resistance to blackleg and potato viruses Yo, Yn, and A, but shows low resistance to late blight (foliage and tubers) and powdery scab. It is susceptible to both Ro1 and Pa 2/3,1 potato cyst nematodes. Bred by Robert Hoopes, with Pepsico as the breeder agent.
