Earlier potato planting is being hastened in rural areas across the DPRK. Agricultural workers in South Hwanghae Province finished earlier potato planting in the shortest time.

North Korea's leader Kim Jong-un has visited the Samjiyon Potato Farina Production Factory for the second time this year, after a visit in July, the state-run Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) reported Tuesday.

Last week North Korea's State News Agency shared a number of pictures of Kim Jong Un touring a new potato factory in Samjiyon, near the Chinese border.

It is a particularly unsuccessful year for North Korean agriculture. An inside source in North Korea has reported that torrential rains have affected the potato harvest in Unheung and Daehongdan in Ryanggang Province.

The increase was made possible in large part by support and assistance provided by South Korea, visiting South Korean scholars and agricultural officials noted. Seoul and Pyongyang have held annual symposiums on agricultural science since 2000.
