Descripción de la compañía

Monsanto Company was an American agrochemical and agricultural biotechnology firm formed in 1901 by John Francis Queeny in St. Louis, Missouri.

Monsanto began as a saccharin-producing chemical firm and has since expanded into industrial chemicals, polymers, and agricultural products.  By the 1970s, it had become well-known for creating Roundup, a glyphosate-based herbicide.

In the 1980s and 1990s, Monsanto changed its attention to biotechnology, becoming a major manufacturer of genetically engineered seeds. The corporation experienced extensive reorganization in the late 1990s and early 2000s, culminating in its reformation in 2000 following its separation from Pharmacia & Upjohn.

Monsanto was acquired by Bayer AG for $63 billion in 2018, and its businesses were incorporated into the Crop Science division.
