Online tool to detect blackleg disease in potato using DNA testing has widespread application
Scientists have developed a user-friendly online tool called Uniqprimer, which quickly and automatically designs species-specific DNA tags (also known as primers) for detecting pathogens such as Dickeya dianthicola using DNA testing.

Overall, U.S. potato imports declined slightly during the first quarter (July – September) of the July 2019 – June 2020 marketing year compared to the previous year, dipping 12% in volume and 2% in value.

South Korea approves Colorado, Montana seed potatoes for chipping
As of November 12, 2019 seed potatoes from Montana and Colorado can be used in the Pacific Northwest chipping and tablestock export programs for South Korea.
After backing out of a deal to buy all of the facilities of bankrupt cooperative NORPAC, the Oregon Potato Company now offers to buy only the Quincy, Washington, plant (shown above).

Frost ends Manitoba potato harvest
Frost last week ended Manitoba’s potato harvest, leaving thousands of acres undug.
It’s the second year wet soils prevented potato farmers from getting all the crop off before heavy frost ruined it.
