The Idaho Potato Commission's advertising programs garnered a number of new awards in recent weeks, including three for a special potato-peeling demonstration by actress Dawn Wells.
Wells, best known for portraying Mary Ann on the popular comedy Gilligan's Island, shows how to peel a potato by scoring it with a paring knife and dropping it in boiling water for 15 minutes, then plunging it in ice water. The skin sluffs right off.
The film won an Ava Award, an international creative competition recognizing outstanding achievements in video and film, said Frank Muir, IPC president and chief executive officer. It also won two platinum awards for film writing and on-camera talent.
The IPC also won a gold MarCom Award for a potato tips booklet released to celebrate the commission's 70th anniversary, said Muir. Additionally, the television advertisement produced for last year's Fiesta Bowl, won by Boise State University's Broncos, won a platinum award.
A harvest press kit sent own by the IPC also won a platinum award, he said.
