Jalandhar potato growers to install grading machines

mei 06, 2008
To cut the cost of manual grading of the potato crop, Jalandhar Potato Growers Association is all set to install grading machines of International standard and for the purpose approached Holland based company Allround Nu-Tech.

"Presently the potatoes are graded roughly by hand on the field by collecting into jute bags and brought on lorries to the cold store, but the grading machines will not only cut the cost, which is Rs one per kilogram, it will also enable us for accurate grading", Jaswinder Singh Sangha, General Secretary of the Association said after having demonstration of the machine by the company.

The machine is capable of grading ten tonnes of potato in an hour and it costs Rs 16 lakh.
As the grading machines are moveable, the sorter could be taken right into the fields to get maximum use and a farmer could save at least Rs two lakh per season by installing the machine in his field, he added.
