ConAgra Foods announced today its inaugural Corporate Responsibility Report is now available. The report captures the facts and data behind ConAgra Foods’ commitment to improving not only the food it makes—such asHealthy Choicemeals,Chef Boyardeepasta andHunt’stomatoes—but its methods and operations in making those well-known brands. The report transparently shows the company’s performance in climate change, packaging, food safety, employee relations, corporate giving and a wide range of other important topics.
In preparing its report,ConAgra Foodsfollowed the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) G3 Sustainability Reporting Guidelines, which provide a framework and performance indicators for reporting.ConAgra Foodshas self-declared a “B” application level for its 2008 Corporate Responsibility Report. In the area of environmental protection and resource conservation,ConAgra Foodshas many initiatives under way to conserve energy, reduce waste and save precious resources. These efforts are represented by packaging, product and supply chain improvements. For example, the company’sHunt’sketchup bottle has received international recognition for its more environmentally friendly packaging design, and ConAgra Foods’ frozen food trays are the first in North America to use post-consumer recycled material, an effort that is expected to eliminate eight million pounds of landfill waste annually.
