Governor C.L. "Butch" Otter announced that the city of Burley will receive nearly $500,000 in Community Development Block Grant funding.
The money - $499,000 - will go toward the cost of public infrastructure to support a new potato dehydration facility of Gem State Processing, being built in the Burley Industrial Park.
Gem State Processing, which broke ground on its Burley facility in August, is the Idaho arm of the Oregon Potato Co. The plant will produce potato flakes that will be used in various products.
The grant will go toward extending water, sewer and storm water systems to the building site, as well as fund the installation of electrical transformers and roadway improvements.
The Community Development Block Grant program is a competitive process funded through the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development and administered by the Idaho Department of Commerce.
