Volgens het NAPMN (North American Potato Market News) zal het areaal aardappelen in de Verenigde Staten t.o.v. 2010 voor oogstjaar 2011 met 5% toenemen.
De verwachting is dat het areaal van de hoofdoogst uitkomt op 375.200 hectare, bijna 18.000 hectare meer dan vorig seizoen.
Na de dip in 2010 zal het areaal weer groter worden en volgens de schattingen vergelijkbaar zijn met het areaal van oogstjaar 2009 (374.850 hectare). Vooral in Idaho en Washington neemt het areaal toe.
