Om de toenemende zwaarlijvigheid en de stijgende gezondheidszorgkosten aan te pakken heeft Hongarije een wet ingevoerd waarbij speciale belasting moet worden betaald voor 'vet' voedsel.
Mensen gaan meer betalen voor voedingsmiddelen met een hoog vet- zout- en suikergehalte zoals chips en fastfood. De nieuwe wetgeving wordt ook wel 'chips'-belasting genoemd.
Volgens de Hongaarse premier moeten de mensen die ongezond leven meer bijdragen. In het land is een gezondheidszorgtekort van 370 miljoen euro. Men verwacht dat ook andere Europese landen deze maatregel gaat volgen.
