Harinder Farms Hosts Dutch Expert to Strengthen India’s Seed Potato Pipeline and Soil Health Practices

Harinder Farms, a Jalandhar-based agribusiness organisation, has hosted a senior expert from the Netherlands for a 10-day technical exchange aimed at strengthening its seed potato pipeline and aligning practices with international standards followed in Holland.
Harinder Farms operates its seed potato vertical under Harindra Biotech, which specialises in the propagation and multiplication of Early Generation Seed Potatoes through tissue culture technology. These seeds are subsequently multiplied through controlled field generations and supplied to potato-growing regions across India.
Early Generation planting material ensures higher marketable yield, true-to-type characteristics, and healthier crop establishment for potato growers nationwide.
During the visit, the expert conducted in-field evaluations and shared global best practices including field preparation, crop nutrition planning, irrigation protocols, virus prevention, and post-harvest handling. A special technical session was also dedicated to soil health, highlighting long-term sustainability and the importance of maintaining soil vitality under intensive potato cropping conditions.
The visiting expert brings over 45 years of specialised experience in seed potato systems. His work spans foundation seed production, disease-free propagation, varietal development and seed supply chains. He has been a long-standing advocate for soil health and structured seed production practices, emphasising that high-quality seed and healthy soil are inseparable components of superior crop performance.

Strengthening the seed potato pipeline
The visit was organised as part of Harinder Farms’ ongoing efforts to enhance its foundation seed systems, thereby improving the quality of planting material reaching Indian farmers.
Harinder Singh Dhindsa, Director of Harinder Farms:
"The Netherlands is regarded as a global leader in seed potato technology. Through this collaboration, we aim to strengthen our seed potato pipeline across operations and raise production benchmarks within India."
Farmer awareness under ‘Harindra Grow’
Through its farmer-engagement programme Harindra Grow, the company empanels progressive growers and conducts awareness activities focused on crop health, disciplined fertilisation, and scientific cultivation practices. The initiative encourages farmers to adopt improved protocols and to avoid excessive fertiliser usage that negatively affects plant and soil performance.
Harinder Farms stated that such collaborations support India’s potential to build a reliable and advanced seed potato ecosystem, enabling growers to achieve stronger yields and better commercial outcomes.
