The Ministry of Agriculture, Food Sovereignty and Livestock (MASAE), through the Directorate of Horticulture, officially received a container of seeds potatoes at the Dakar Autonomous Port, marking a key step in the 2025–2026 horticultural campaign.

This initiative aligns with the national agricultural policy led by President Bassirou Diomaye Faye and Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko, who prioritize food sovereignty as a strategic goal for the country’s economy and the welfare of its population.

For the campaign, over 20,000 tons of subsidized certified seeds have been mobilized, including 11,348 tons imported, 7,000 tons local, 1,000 tons elite and super-elite seeds, and 500,000 vitro plants for reproduction. The government has allocated more than 7.3 billion FCFA (EUR 11.13 million) to ensure farmers have access to quality seeds at competitive prices, supporting a sustainable revival of the horticultural sector.

MASAE extended gratitude to the President and Prime Minister for the record 130 billion FCFA (EUR 198 million) budget dedicated to horticulture, reflecting strong political commitment to transforming national agriculture.

As of November 7, 94.3% of invoices owed to seed potato suppliers have been settled, thanks to the Ministry of Finance and Public Treasury’s efficiency. The Ministry also commended the Director-General of the Dakar Autonomous Port for his collaboration and for the port’s international recognition as the most efficient in Africa.
