Aardappelplanten die via genetische modificatie zijn uitgerust met het een gen dat codeert voor het zogenoemde T4-lysozym, hebben geen aantoonbare onbedoelde effecten op de samenstelling van de microflora in de grond dicht bij de wortels en de samenstelling van de microflora ín de plant. Het gebruik van dergelijke genen, voor de ontwikkeling van planten met extra weerstand tegen schadelijke bacteriën en schimmels, kan dus een goede aanpak zijn.
