Voor het eerst worden er aardappelen uit zilte grond geoogst. Dit gebeurt vrijdag op het Texelse Den Hoorn.
Aardappelteeltbedrijven Biemond en Fobek uit Sint Annaparochie rooien de aardappelen samen met Arjen de Vos van de Vrije Universiteit van Amsterdam en Marc van Rijsselberghe van Texelse Milieuvriendelijke NatuurProducten (TMNP) uit Den Burg.
Verzilting van zoete landbouwgrond is een groeiend probleem. Dit project is een manier om te anticiperen op klimaatverandering. De teelt van aardappels op zilte grond biedt kansen en vindt plaats in het kader van een onderzoek naar de mogelijkheden om zilte gewassen te verbouwen op landbouwgrond.
