Starch Europe Conference is an yearly conference and dinner in the European Parliament on 14 November 2023, hosted by MEP Asger Christensen (RENEW), member of the European Parliament’s Committee on Agriculture and Rural Development, to discuss the role EU-grown plant-based proteins can play in the transition to a more sustainable food system.
The European starch sector is an important European industrial sector, a key actor in the EU AgriFood value chain, a pioneering player in the EU Bioeconomy, and a constructive partner in reaching the EU Green Deal objectives and the transition to a more sustainable food system.
The conference will see high-level speakers, including keynote Pierre Bascou (Director E - Markets, European Commission DG AGRI), and moderated by Rose O'Donovan (AgraFacts), contribute to the debate on the importance of a coherent and comprehensive EU Protein Strategy fostering innovation and diversity of protein sources, to help us achieve both greater sustainability, but ultimately also increased resilience and food security.
A round-table discussion will further include Jeroen van Bon (Wageningen Food & Biobased Research, Wageningen University & Research) and Bart Vandewaetere (VP Corporate Communications & ESG Engagement, Nestlé Europe), and Franck Monmont (President, Starch Europe).
