Potato Growers of Alberta (PGA)

Potato producers of Alberta (PGA) is a Canadian non-profit industry group that represents Alberta's seed, table, and processing potato sectors while also assisting potato producers, packers, processors, researchers, merchants, and the larger food industry. The association supports Alberta potatoes' production, marketing, research, education, and long-term development through industry lobbying, technical extension, consumer promotion, and research financing. PGA also offers grower assistance programs, crop information, seed potato resources, instructional materials, nutrition information, industry data, promotional efforts, and market development activities to help Alberta's potato sector from production to consumption. Working together with producers, government agencies, researchers, and commercial partners, the organization acts as the principal voice of Alberta's potato industry, helping to connect the province's potato output with domestic and worldwide markets.

The Alberta Potato Commission was founded in 1966 by potato producers and industry leaders to enhance collaboration across the province's potato sector. The commission, established under Alberta's Agricultural Products and Marketing Act, concentrated on research, advertising, communications, and industry development before morphing into the current Potato Growers of Alberta (PGA). Over the course of nearly six decades, the group has helped to develop potato production, pest control, irrigation, storage, marketing, and sustainability, as well as chronicling the industry's history via publications like A Window to the Past - Celebrating 50 Years of Working & Growing Together.
