The Igorota potato variety, also known as PO3, is a high-yielding cultivar developed through intercrossing late blight-resistant Solanum tuberosum ssp. andigena clones. Selected in 1988 at La Trinidad, Benguet, Philippines, it was officially registered in the Philippines in 1997 and in Vietnam in 2004.
Key Characteristics:
- Disease Resistance: Exhibits durable resistance to late blight (Phytophthora infestans), potato virus Y (PVY), and potato leafroll virus (PLRV).
- Environmental Tolerance: Adapted to tropical highland conditions and tolerant to heavy rainfall.
- Yield Potential: Farmers have reported yields ranging from 25 to 35 tons per hectare.
- Maturity: Medium maturity, with a growth period of approximately 100 to 120 days.
- Tuber Quality: Round-shaped tubers with a mealy texture, suitable for both table consumption and processing, including potato chips.
