King Harry is a white-skinned, white-fleshed potato variety. The variety was bred specifically for natural insect resistance through dense glandular trichomes (leaf hairs). These sticky leaf hairs significantly deter leafhoppers, aphids, flea beetles, and partially deter Colorado potato beetle, reducing the need for insecticide applications, especially in low-input or organic systems.

Aroostook County has long been referred to as Maine’s Potato Empire. Because of the relatively short season in the County and its rich, fertile soil, potatoes became the dominant crop as non-indigenous settlement increased in the 19th century.
