Descripción de la variedad

Sivas (KO 13-2242) is an early maincrop ware potato variety developed by Konst Research B.V.. It originates from a cross between KO 06-1457 and Savanna and is positioned in the traditional market segment. The variety is notable for its large, oval tubers with yellow skin, light-yellow flesh, and an attractive skin finish, making it suitable for both local and export markets.

Sivas combines strong growth vigor with robust foliage development and delivers a high, reliable yield. It produces large, fairly uniform tubers and has a relatively long dormancy period, which makes it well suited for medium- to long-term storage. Its good tolerance to bruising further supports its handling and post-harvest performance.

In terms of quality, Sivas is a firm-cooking type (A) with an average underwater weight of 350 and a dry matter content of about 19.2%. These characteristics make it ideal for traditional culinary use rather than processing. The variety also offers good resistance to diseases, including resistance to golden nematode (Ro 1/4) and wart disease (F1), along with tolerance to common scab.

However, Sivas shows some sensitivity to growth cracks and secondary growth and is slightly susceptible to late blight and certain viruses. Overall, with its high yield, attractive appearance, and solid resistance profile, Sivas (KO 13-2242) has strong potential as a successful export and traditional ware variety.
