A snack food company has proposed barbecueing and bagging two of Australia's national symbols, the kangaroo and the emu.
Smiths Snack Foods, the Australian division of Frito-Lay/Pepsico, launched the potato chip flavour "BBQ Coat of Arms".
The new potato chip flavour "BBQ Coat of Arms"will see the two animals, prominently featured on Australia's national coat of arms, in crisp, spicy form [inspired by Walkers - Do us a flavour finalist - "Cajun squirrel"flavour?].
But not everyone sees the funny side of the proposed snack food.
A formal complaint has been issued to the Advertising Standards Bureau saying the flavor is "degrading to native wildlife and would trivalize the plight of creatures already facing habitat destruction, natural predators, and illegal hunting,"according to Australian food industry blog.
The Advertising Standards Bureau investigated the complaints against the new chips but
Smiths Snack Foods has stressed the chips would not contain any actual kangaroo or emu and is, in fact, vegetarian.
