Water management is becoming one of the biggest operational challenges for packhouses and food processors globally. Tightening environmental regulations, rising water costs, and growing pressure to demonstrate sustainable practices are forcing operations to look harder at how they use, treat, and dispose of wash water.

Wyma has developed the Micron Filter XL in direct response to that pressure — a self-cleaning, ultra-fine water filtration system built specifically for the post-harvest and food processing industries.

What Is the Micron Filter XL?

The Micron Filter XL sits downstream of your primary washing equipment — Wet Hoppers, Barrel Washers, Destoners, Vege-Polishers, Peelers, or a collection sump — and typically filters the dirty water coming out of them to levels 0.15mm or less, which is significantly finer than most conventional first-stage filtration systems. The result is water clean enough to reuse directly in your wash line, with recorded Total Suspended Solids (TSS) reductions of greater than 60% and BOD and COD reductions of greater than 50%.

How Does It Work?

Dirty water or slurry is pumped directly into the Micron Filter XL. Water and fine particles pass through the filter mesh into the catchment tank below, whilst larger organic material and debris are extracted and removed. An auger in the base of the tank manages fine sediment, moving it toward the sump outlet. External pumps return the filtered water back to the process line for reuse. The system is designed for continuous operation. Start-up, self-cleaning, sludge management, and end-of-day washdown all happen automatically.

The Self-Cleaning Difference

One significant design feature is the automated self-cleaning system. The filter mesh panels are periodically sprayed using filtered water — not fresh water. This keeps the mesh clear and maintains filtration performance through the day without requiring operator attention or additional water consumption.

The Micron Filter XL combines ultra-fine filtration and automated self-cleaning technology to help processors reduce water consumption and effluent costs.

Built for High-Volume Operations

The Micron Filter XL is available in multiple capacities, ranging from 5 to 50 litres per second at 0.15mm filtration — equivalent to 18 to 180 cubic metres per hour, or 4,700 to 47,000 US gallons per hour. Whether you are running a mid-scale packhouse or a large-volume processing line, there is a configuration to match your throughput.

Who Is It For?

The Micron Filter XL is suited to any operation that uses water to wash or process fresh produce or food products and wants to reduce water consumption, lower effluent disposal costs, and meet environmental consent conditions. Crops and applications currently running on the system include potatoes, carrots, parsnips, tree nuts and pip fruit, covering various food processing & fresh pack applications.

Exclusive to Wyma Solutions

The Micron Filter XL has been developed by Wyma Solutions and is exclusive to Wyma. It has been designed to integrate directly with the wider Wyma wash line equipment range — offering a complete water management solution from intake to recycled output.
