9th World Potato Congress to be hosted by Yanqing County of Beijing City, China

David Thompson, President of World Potato Congress Inc., recently announced that Yanqing County, Beijing City, China, has been selected as the site of the 9th International World Potato Congress to be held July 28-30th, 2015.

It is the first time the Congress will be held in the Beijing Region of China and will be hosted by the People’s Government of Yanqing County. It’s expected more than 900 delegates from developing and developed countries, including growers, researchers, producers, traders, processors and manufacturers, will attend the conference.

President Thompson, of Prince Edward Island, Canada, stated “Yanqing County, with its focus on green development and urban modern eco-agriculture, environmental protection industries and tourism, will be an ideal venue for delegates to our tri-annual congress.”

The Chairman of the People’s Government of Yanqing County, Mr. Xianzhong , said his government is extremely pleased to have the opportunity to showcase Yanqing County, and the Beijing City Region, to potato industry leaders from throughout the world

“The information exchange, and first hand exposure to developments in the potato industry, will benefit both local and international players alike,” said Mr. Li.

The Beijing Badaling (Great Wall) International Conference and Exhibition Centre will be the main venue, with delegates participating in a variety of seminars, presentations by industry leaders, and scientific dialogues. Delegates will also have opportunities to visit local growing and producing facilities. Numerous pre and post Congress tours will offer delegates unique opportunities for exposure to the Beijing Region as well as numerous other exotic locations such as Hangzhou, Shanghai, Chengdu, Yangshou and Lijiang.

The 2015 Congress was awarded to Yanqing County, China, following three days of negotiation between representatives of the Peoples Government of Yanqing County and a delegation representing the Directors of World Potato Congress Inc.

The Congress functions to promote sharing of information on all aspects of the potato industry. Delegates represent industry sectors in both developed countries and countries with developing potato industries. Over 50% of the world’s potatoes are produced in developing countries, with the volume increasing, as new technology and practices are adopted in those countries.
