Aardappeldemodag starts planting for 2026 event with HZPC Libra variety

Aardappeldemodag has started planting activities for Aardappeldemodag 2026, with 2.5 hectares of the potato variety Libra planted last week.

According to the event organization, the potatoes will be used to demonstrate unloading and processing lines during the upcoming edition of Aardappeldemodag.
 

Libra variety to be highlighted at the event

Libra is a new table potato variety from HZPC. The variety will also be explained in more detail during Aardappeldemodag 2026. The variety is an early-maturing cultivar and known for its impressive yield, producing uniform and well-shaped tubers with vibrant skin. 

Libra has strong resistance to potato cyst nematodes (PCN), including Ro1/4, Ro2/3, Pa2, and Pa3, and it is also resistant to wart disease types F1, F2, and F18. However, it is moderately to highly susceptible to several other problems: 

 

• Foliage blight and tuber blight: moderately susceptible
• Alternaria (early blight): moderately susceptible
• Common scab and powdery scab: moderately susceptible
• Spraing and Yntn virus (tuber necrosis): quite susceptible
• PVY virus: slightly to moderately susceptible

With planting now underway, preparations for the event have moved into the field phase as organizers begin establishing the crop that will later be used in live equipment demonstrations.
