Guizhou working hard to become the largest potato-producing region in China

As Guizhou prepares for the three-day 2010 China potato festival to be held on May 28, statistics show that potato cultivation in the region is continuing to expand.

According to statistics, the potato planting areas in Guizhou province has increased from 3,560 square kilometers in 1995 to 6,350 square kilometers in 2009, representing a 78 percent growth. It is estimated that Guizhou province will be the largest potato-producing region in 2015 with 6,670 square kilometers of planting area.

Guizhou province has invested over 100 million yuan in developing the potato industry in 2009 and harvested 11 billion Yuan gross output value with 4.9 billion yuan net income.
