Sustainable cooperation in Brabant's potato processing industry

december 27, 2023
Agristo, Peka Kroef, Lamb Weston and Duynie have teamed up to create a groundbreaking partnership focused on sustainability and ecological awareness. Together the parties - all located in Brabant, a province in the South of the Netherlands - commit to investigating the feasibility and implementation of techniques to reduce the amount of water consumption in the potato processing industry, and at the same time to maximise the valorisation of nutrients.

Innovation constituents: Circular Economy in Action

The shared goal is to improve the sustainability of the potato processing industry and in that way to positively impact the environment. Water is used in the potato processing industry to wash and transport potatoes. Many steps have already been taken to reduce water consumption.

By identifying and implementing innovative and eco-friendly methods, it should be possible to reduce water consumption even further, and thereby to minimise the industry’s ecological footprint. Ample opportunities remain to further optimise processes by learning from each other and pursuing innovation.

A further aspect of the partnership involves exploring the possibilities of extracting valuable constituents from the process water. These substances can serve as raw material for various applications, such as animal feed or other products. This contributes to creating a circular economy and to realising a future where sustainability and innovation go hand in hand.
