EFC Plants is specialized in date palm micro-propagation and acclimatization. The company directs its efforts towards producing date palm seedlings of the highest quality using state-of-the-art technology. The production capacity exceeds 300,000 date palm plants per year.
Varieties
The main varieties preserved and propagated in the laboratory are:
- Medjool (Mejhoul)
- Barhi
- Khalass
- Sagai
- Ghannami
Other varieties can be micro-propagated as per demand.
Genetic Conformity
EFC Plants monitors the genetic stability of plants throughout the entire in-vitro process.
The laboratory applies complex quality control standards, along with third-party verification and assessment of plant stability. This is done by comparing the genetic profiles of the mother plants (offshoots) with the produced in-vitro plants, ensuring that all plants are true to type.
Source Material
All explants used in production originate from offshoots carefully selected from known sources and from mother plants with proven health and variety characteristics.
Offshoots are tested for variety confirmation in leading European laboratories specialized in DNA testing and fingerprinting techniques.
Laboratory In-Vitro Propagation
EFC Plants uses explants taken from selected mother date palm plants in their natural environment and initiates them into a controlled in-vitro laboratory environment.
Once successfully initiated, the explant grows and differentiates, producing many date palm plantlets identical to the mother plant.
These plantlets enter the multiplication stage according to a pre-determined production plan that maintains genetic conformity.
The process continues with shoot separation, followed by elongation and in-vitro rooting stages in advanced and controlled laboratory growth rooms.
Acclimatization and Hardening
After completing the in-vitro process, the plants are transplanted into “torpedo” pots with a special peat mixture and transferred to a controlled greenhouse for acclimatization.
Once adapted to ex-vitro conditions, the plants are further hardened until they reach approximately 25–30 cm in height with 3 to 5 juvenile leaves.
The greenhouse provides facilities for planting, hardening, growing, packing, and dispatching EFC Plants certified date palm plants.
Field Confirmation
Continuous plant testing and monitoring of morphology and fruit characteristics are carried out during the first five years of production.
EFC Plants provides customers with technical and field support to ensure total customer satisfaction and profitability.
