Frito-Lay introduces BLT-flavored Potato Chips

四月 18, 2012
Lay's, America's most-loved potato chip and a leading brand from PepsiCo's Frito-Lay division, today introduced Lay's Classic BLT-flavored potato chips, a new flavor that celebrates one of America's favorite sandwiches — the bacon, lettuce and tomato (BLT). Lay's Classic BLT-flavored potato chips deliver the taste of a mouth-watering BLT sandwich paired with the crispy texture of the world-famous classic potato chip. The new flavor will first arrive on store shelves nationwide in April, which is also National BLT Sandwich Month.

"At Frito-Lay, our flavor experts find inspiration in all corners of the culinary universe. Our new Classic BLT-flavored Lay's potato chips prove that inspiration is sometimes closer than you think,"said Ram Krishnan, vice president of marketing, Frito-Lay North America. "Pairing a delicious sandwich with our tasty Lay's potato chips is an American tradition that helped inspire us to create this new flavor – a simple indulgence that makes more sense together than apart – just like the BLT."

The BLT sandwich became popular when the rapid expansion of supermarkets after World War II made fresh produce more easily accessible year round. Lay's Classic BLT-flavored potato chips harness the traditional taste of the beloved sandwich by featuring the tastes of crispy bacon, refreshing lettuce and a sliver of tomato in every rewarding crunch.

The Lay's brand's introduction of Lay's Classic BLT potato chips also comes as the demand for bacon sizzles. Total bacon sales nationwide have been growing at a rapid pace over the last decade, highlighted by an 11 percent increase from 2010 to 2011.

The new Lay's Classic BLT-flavored potato chips will be available nationwide this month in three sizes: a 1.9 oz. bag for a suggested retail price of $1.09;a 2.9 oz. bag for a suggested retail price of $1.49;and a 10 oz. bag for a suggested retail price of $4.29.
